Job Title: Research & Development Formulation Specialist
Location: Mitchell, SD
Reports To: Director of Operations

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Manage technical aspects of new products and product improvement from concept to production (formulations, packaging, etc.)
  • Develop ingredient and finished product specifications
  • Work one-on-one with customers to produce formulas
  • Report the progress/status of program implementation to manager of food safety, regularly
  • Maintain all documents to support formula accuracy and product label compliance standards, feeding guidelines, nutritional adequacy, and advertising claims
  • Provide technical support in statistical analysis, problem solving, product disposition, and risk assessment related to products
  • Develop and screen product for product quality improvement initiatives and cost savings
  • Improve existing products to ensure best performance and cost optimization
  • Work with all functional areas to ensure product is developed in an efficient and timely manner
  • Coordinate and lead incident management and investigation for consumers and customers
  • Ensure all company, food safety, and product quality requirements are met in all formulations and provide support where needed

Qualifications

  • BS degree in food science, biology/microbiology, animal nutrition, animal science, or related majors, required
  • 1-2 years of experience in food industry with focus on developing SOP, HACCP and FSMA plans
  • Co-manufacturing experience, preferred
  • Proven experience in and understanding of principles of formula development and testing
  • Strong understanding of Good Laboratory Practices requirements
  • Positive interpersonal skills and the ability to work well within a team setting
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all departments of the organization
  • Results oriented, creative and innovative
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite – Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Travel up to 30%, annually
