Job Purpose

Shift Supervisor is responsible for overseeing that all plant processes and equipment are operated in a safe, clean and effective manner to ensure the production of high-quality products while meeting all regulatory compliance requirements.

As a key member of the Plant’s Operations Team, the Shift Supervisor will:

  • Adopt and exemplify FUI’s mission, vision, and values.
  • Be jointly responsible for contributing towards the achievement of the company’s strategic and operational targets and overall business aims
  • Stive to understand plant products, markets, customers, and market and custmer product and service standards
  • Ensure plant safety, product safety, and environmental compliance goals are met

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversee plant production during their assigned shift including receiving, dry-batch, dicing/shredding, meat loading, blending, chub production, canning, can packaging, sanitation, and warehouse
  • Adhere to all health, safety and environmental policies/procedures, FSMA requirements, HACCP requirements, and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs)
  • Set high standards for plant housekeeping and ensure standards are understood, being achieved, and are continuously being improved
  • Develop a strong knowledge of plant equipment, operating procedures and best practices, and operator basic care requirements
  • Develop and continuously improve plant operating standards, processes and procedures
  • Assist in the selection of new hires for operational positions
  • Responsible for leading, coaching, training, developing and disciplining of operations personnel
  • Two-way communicate with team members to understand and meet goals and objectives and to solve operating problems efficiently and effectively
  • Work closely with plant maintenance to ensure equipment reliability to meet production and quality requirements and to continuously improve plant operations

Qualifications, Education & Work Experience

  • 3 or more years’ experience in a food/feed manufacturing environment with supervisor experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Food Science or any Engineering discipline preferred
  • Associate Degree with manufacturing supervision experience will be considered
  • Working knowledge of processing food/feed equipment, material handling, and plant/facility operation systems
  • Knowledge and experience with FSMA and HACCP requirements
  • Leads with a sense of urgency, customer service, excellence and pride, in a team environment
  • Must have excellent communication skills and the ability to develop a team environment promoting talent growth and mutual assistance
  • Experience with MRP systems and strong PC & MS Office
  • Canning and LEAN Manufacturing experience is a plus


  • Ability to work in a face-paced pet food canning manufacturing and distribution environment
  • Employee safety and product safety is essential
  • Ability and willingness to work extra hours on a scheduled/unscheduled basis when required
  • Ability to work day/night shifts, or rotations, as applicable
  • Ability to work in confined spaces
  • Tolerance of varying environmental conditions
  • Tolerance of wet, slippery conditions
  • Occasionally push and/or pull heavy objects (approx. 100 lbs. max)
  • Frequently bend at the waist and/or knees
  • Occasionally lift up to 100 lbs. from floor to waist level
  • Frequently climb stairs and/or ladders (up to 40 ft.)
  • Ability to distinguish colors (i.e. wire codes)
